The Air Canada Signature Suite has different access rules than the Maple Leaf Lounge. Business Class tickets, elite status, and premium credit cards do not automatically qualify.
Access is primarily tied to being originally booked and ticketed in eligible Air Canada Signature Class fare buckets, or to holding a specific type of Aeroplan Flexible premium-cabin reward. A few partner-airline exceptions also apply, but most common lounge-access methods do not.
This guide covers every qualifying path, the exclusions, and how the Toronto and Vancouver rules differ.
What is the Air Canada Signature Suite?
The Air Canada Signature Suite is Air Canada’s highest-end ground product. It is separate from the airline’s Maple Leaf Lounges and separate from the Air Canada Café.
At the moment, Air Canada operates two Signature Suites:
- Toronto Pearson (YYZ) in the international departures area beside Gate E77
- Vancouver (YVR) next to Gate D52 on the second floor of the international Maple Leaf Lounge
The experience includes sit-down dining, elevated drinks, quieter seating, and concierge support. It is a separate tier above the standard lounge.
- Maple Leaf Lounge — premium airline lounge, broader access rules
- Signature Suite — restricted flagship dining-and-lounge experience, narrow access rules
For the broader lounge benefit, see our guide to How to Access Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges.

Who Gets Access
The qualifying paths are:
- An Air Canada-operated long-haul itinerary originally booked and ticketed in J, C, D, Z, or P
- An eligible Aeroplan Business Class Flexible Reward or First Class Flexible Reward booked in J, C, D, Z, P, or I
- A limited set of partner exceptions, mainly Lufthansa Group HON Circle, Lufthansa First Class, Swiss First Class, and Emirates First Class at Toronto
All other access methods should be treated as non-qualifying.

| Business reward tickets booked and ticketed by partner airlines | No | Specifically excluded |

| Emirates First Class | Yes, at YYZ only | Toronto-specific exception on the official page |
Standard Air Canada Access Rules
The core Air Canada access rule is narrower than the Maple Leaf Lounge equivalent.
To qualify under the normal Air Canada path, you need to be travelling on an Air Canada-operated itinerary and you need to have been originally booked and ticketed in one of these classes:
- J
- C
- D
- Z
- P
The "originally booked and ticketed" requirement is the reason most upgrades do not qualify.
Air Canada’s official Signature Suite page specifically excludes:
- R class bookings
- eUpgrades
- Last-Minute Upgrades
- AC Bid Upgrades
- bookings created during irregular operations when the customer was not originally confirmed in an eligible class
A passenger seated in Air Canada Signature Class at departure can still be ineligible for the Signature Suite if the booking was not originally ticketed in a qualifying fare class.
Aeroplan Reward Tickets That Qualify
Aeroplan redemptions can qualify for the Signature Suite, but only specific reward types.
Eligible reward types:
- Aeroplan Business Class Flexible Reward
- Aeroplan First Class Flexible Reward
Those rewards must be booked in the qualifying booking classes Air Canada lists for the Suite. Air Canada also says I booking class can be eligible in this flexible-reward context.
What does not qualify:
- Aeroplan Business Class Lowest Reward
- Aeroplan First Class Lowest Reward
- Business Class reward tickets booked and ticketed by partner airlines
When redeeming Aeroplan points, "business class" alone is not sufficient. The reward must be the Flexible version, not the Lowest variant.
For a broader look at how those reward types work, see our Aeroplan points guide.
Earning Aeroplan Points for Flexible Rewards
Aeroplan Business Class Flexible rewards require more points than Lowest rewards. Building a large Aeroplan balance is easier with a co-branded Aeroplan credit card that earns points on everyday spending.

Complimentary access for the Basic and eligible Supplementary Cardmembers to any Air Canada Café and any Maple Leaf Lounge located in Canada and the United States, including international terminals in Canada and the U.S., when travelling on an eligible same-day Air Canada or Star Alliance flight. Each is also entitled to bring one guest complimentary; additional guests may enter for a fee.

Access select Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafés for primary cardholder and 1 guest before December 31, 2026, plus 6 complimentary visits per year through Visa Airport Companion Program.

Toronto vs Vancouver: Route Rules
The two Signature Suites have different qualifying routes and partner exceptions.
Toronto Pearson (YYZ)
According to Air Canada’s Signature Suite page, the Toronto suite is for eligible Air Canada Signature Class customers travelling on a non-stop Air Canada-operated flight to:
- Europe
- Asia
- South America
Toronto also has an extra partner exception that Vancouver does not: Emirates First Class passengers can access the Signature Suite at YYZ when departing on an Emirates-operated flight.
Vancouver (YVR)
At Vancouver, the official Signature Suite page lists qualifying Air Canada-operated itineraries to:
- Europe
- Asia
- Australia
- New Zealand
There is no Emirates exception listed for Vancouver on the official page.
Connections
Air Canada’s broader Signature Service page states that eligible customers can access the Signature Suites when they have a departure or connection via YYZ or YVR on an eligible Air Canada-operated long-haul itinerary to Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, or New Zealand.
This wording is slightly broader than the airport-specific Signature Suite page. Key points:
- Qualifying same-day connectors into an eligible long-haul Air Canada flight can be covered
- The exact airport and route still determine eligibility
- The original ticketed booking class and boarding pass are what the Concierge verifies
For domestic connections onto a qualifying long-haul flight, access is reasonable to expect, but the official lounge page for the specific airport is the most reliable reference.
Partner-Airline Exceptions
Air Canada lists the following partner exceptions.
Lufthansa Group HON Circle
HON Circle members can access the Signature Suite at both YYZ and YVR when departing on an international flight with:
- Air Canada
- Air Canada Rouge
- Air Canada Express
- Lufthansa
- Swiss
- Austrian Airlines
- Brussels Airlines
- Air Dolomiti
This applies in any class of service.
Air Canada also says HON Circle members may bring:
- one complimentary guest travelling on the same flight
- children under the age of two
Lufthansa First Class and Swiss First Class
Passengers travelling in First Class on an international flight operated by Lufthansa or Swiss can also access the Signature Suite at both Toronto and Vancouver.
The official page allows:
- one complimentary guest travelling on the same flight
- children under two
Emirates First Class (Toronto Only)
Air Canada also lists Emirates First Class passengers as eligible for the Toronto Pearson Signature Suite when departing on an Emirates-operated flight.
Notably, Air Canada does not list the same exception for Vancouver.
The official page does not include a complimentary guest policy for Emirates First Class passengers equivalent to the HON Circle or Lufthansa/Swiss First provisions. Without explicit confirmation from Air Canada or Emirates, there is no automatic guest entitlement under this exception.
Who Does Not Qualify
Based on Air Canada's published access list and exclusions, the following are non-qualifying for Signature Suite access:
- Aeroplan premium credit cards
- general Maple Leaf Lounge access
- Aeroplan elite status on its own
- Star Alliance Gold status on its own
- Status Pass lounge access
- upgraded Business Class seats obtained through R-class instruments
Those benefits remain valid for Maple Leaf Lounge access, but they do not extend to the Signature Suite.
Air Canada's Status Pass FAQ confirms this separately: Status Pass recipients can enter Maple Leaf Lounges and the Air Canada Café, but not the Air Canada Signature Suite.
Guest Rules
For standard eligible Air Canada customers:
- No guests allowed
This applies to all travellers qualifying under eligible J/C/D/Z/P fares and eligible Aeroplan Flexible rewards.
The only clearly published complimentary guest exceptions on Air Canada’s Signature Suite page are:
- Lufthansa Group HON Circle members
- Lufthansa First Class passengers
- Swiss First Class passengers
Each of those exceptions allows one complimentary guest on the same flight, plus children under two years of age.
What You Need at the Door
Access is granted by presenting an eligible boarding pass to the Concierge at the entrance.
The Concierge validates:
- Operating carrier
- Route and airport
- Original ticketed booking class
- Whether the booking falls into an excluded upgrade or reward category
Entry is determined by a back-end ticketing check, not by cabin class at departure or card membership.
Tarmac Transfer for Connecting Passengers
Air Canada's Signature Service page states that eligible connecting Signature Class customers arriving from within Canada and connecting at YYZ or YVR to Asia, Europe, or South America may, subject to availability, be met by a Concierge and transported across the tarmac in an Air Canada vehicle to the Signature Suite.
This is not a guaranteed benefit. Availability depends on operational conditions at the time of travel.

Summary
The Air Canada Signature Suite is a restricted flagship product. Access is determined by original ticketing class, eligible Aeroplan Flexible rewards, and a limited set of partner-airline exceptions.
